Block 162

Bergelectric, under the direction of Swinerton Builders, has successfully completed the Block 162 project—a 33-story Class A office/mixed-use high-rise addition to Denver’s downtown skyline. The 1.1 million-square foot glass tower includes state-of-the-art office space which can easily be adapted to accommodate the tenant’s requirements.

The tower offers a lobby and retail spaces on the ground floor, along with offices on the 11th through 30th floors. The 11th floor features a fitness center, lounge and an outdoor deck space. Parking is available on floors three through ten, as well as three below ground levels.

Block 162 is the second high-rise building completed by Berg in downtown Denver for the past five years (1144 15th Street tower was completed in 2017)—two of the tallest towers in the city since the 1980s.

Among the many challenges that came from building high rise projects like these is the lack of “lay-down” space for Berg’s electrical equipment. Their project manager carefully coordinated Berg’s equipment to be delivered as needed and depended on Berg’s Prefabrication Department to assemble and store components off site which eliminated their need for space on the congested jobsite. Block 162 had a very ambitious timeline—two years from start to finish. Even with an aggressive project deadline, Bergelectric has successfully completed the Block 162 project.

“Our in-house BIM Department was key in keeping this fast-paced project on track,” said Sean McMahon, Regional Vice President. “They flawlessly coordinated all of the busway and switchgear risers which was crucial for high rise projects like this. The BIM Department also assisted in developing the final bill of material for the large conduit and feeder risers,” he added.
